Sew at home

Sew much accomplished. Sooo much left to do. Please comment below (or text Karla Kelsch 719-232-1567) if you are able to take some sewing home and bring it back by Tuesday, Sept 3 next week. All we're doing is hemming the sides of long strips of fabric with a straight stitch (see second photo). Easy peesy

Entertainment Book Communication Email from 8/24/19

Band Parents,

First off, let us start by saying THANK YOU for all you do to support your students! You are passionate to see them all succeed, and as a board, we have an equal passion toward that common goal.

With that said, we have heard your feedback and thank you for your voice and suggestions. We'd like to take this opportunity to explain the reasoning behind the recent change in the Entertainment book fundraiser.

Please know that all decisions made by the board are done with the intent to balance the needs of the program and your children. This change was made with that same intent in mind.

Let us explain just a few of the reasons we decided on this change:
  • Costs are consistently rising for all Liberty Bands. There are so many things we'd like to accomplish for the current and future success of the program. In order to make these goals a reality, funds are necessary.
  • The current state of overall funds is very low at this moment in time and we are doing what we can to rectify that situation.
  • As you know, having a competitive band at many levels requires a LOT of man power and volunteers. Having inconsistent fundraising guidelines contributes to the man hours required for these fine folks that help our students and the program. Our strategic plan is to have ALL fundraisers aligned.
  • Things are ever-changing. We understand this is one of the first big changes that have been made. Please know that again, it is with good intent, and it will not be the last. We will always be reviewing our strategies to ensure we are making the best investments and decisions that will benefit the children and the program the most.
We offer many fundraisers throughout the year in order to provide your students with the opportunity to both raise money for a program they love, and to build their student allocation funds. We encourage you and your student to participate in as many fundraisers as possible as every little bit counts!

The official launch for this fundraiser will occur Monday during class where information and books will be provided to the students. Information will be given to guard members during today's practice to ensure all students are able to participate.

Thank you for trusting us as your board. We do have your children and the program top of mind with these decisions. We have the BIG picture in mind and we THANK YOU for your continued support!

Volunteer Opportunity

Band Parents,

Wow – we’ve had a wonderful response to all of our requests for help and donations during the past month!! It’s been great to see all of you helping with everything from marking band fields to preparing food, measuring for concert uniforms, and everything in between!

We still have many on-going volunteer opportunities.  One of our current needs is for parents to help with putting together the fabric portion of our marching band props.  The fabric is arriving soon (all 500 yards of it)!  We’re planning to start work on Tuesday, August 27 (unless the fabric delivery is delayed).

We really need a LOT of help to sew the GIANT prop we will be using on the field for the show.  It’s going to be great and it’s going to be BIG. The great news is that you DO NOT NEED TO KNOW HOW TO SEW TO HELP.  We need people to measure and cut fabric, pin fabric together, and help keep track of workflow.  If you have a sewing machine, PLEASE BRING IT.  There might also be some sewing that can be done at home so please let us know if you are one of those people that can do some sewing at home with a quick turn around time.

This schedule below should take us through the end of August and all of September.  The goal is to finish in 4 weeks time or sooner. (We need to finish before Legacy but it would be better to get done a week before that so the band can practice using the props.)

Sewing days and times will generally be Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm, and Saturdays from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm (while the kids are rehearsing).  We’ll be working at Karla Kelsch’s House (5830 Leon Young Drive, in Wolf Ranch).  Please bring a snack/lunch to share and a friend!

If you have not been receiving sewing emails, and would like to be added to the distribution list, please reply to this email.

Have a great weekend,
Beth Foster

Volunteers Needed - Band Uniforms

Liberty Band Parents,

Thank you to all the parents and family members that helped to make band camp successful!  It was wonderful to see so many new and returning families helping make our marching band successful.

Now that school is starting, it's time for the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Choir students to be fitted for their uniforms.  We'll be fitting students for concert dresses, tuxedos, and shirts during school hours on August 20-22.  Please see the signup below for dates and times.  If you're available, we'd love to have you sign up for a shift or two!  (Please disregard "band" & "choir" time slot labels - we will be fitting both during each time slot)

Thank you!

Parent Show Shirts - 2019

Liberty Marching Band Families -
The time has come for the Sea of Red! Due to our lack of access to the copier and copy machine in our yet-to-be-set-up band room, we have to be flexible once again this year and at this point in time will not have hard-copies to distribute to the students. However, attached you will find a PDF version of the 2019 "Fallen" show shirt! Please print off a copy at home for ordering, place form and check/cash in an envelope and payment goes to the Red Mailbox (band room will be available to students once school starts). Please make checks payable to "Liberty Band Boosters."

Again, thank you for your flexibility this year and your continuous support of our directors and our kids' band program. We couldn't do it without you!

See you in the stands!

Band Room Help - Updated Request!

Thank you to all of the awesome parents that were able to lend a hand Wednesday night.  The band rooms look amazing!  What a great way to start the school year.

We did get a lot done but there is still plenty left to do.

Thursday 5-9 PM we will need to move equipment from the stadium to the band room.  This will go quick if we have a lot of hands on deck. Pit crew - this is where you shine - come lend a hand. Students with experience moving percussion equipment are welcome.
Saturday: we have multiple things occurring on Saturday and need help in all of these areas. If you come to the band room we'll get you pointed in the right direction.
7:30am spray painting/dotting
9:00am
 construction help
9:00am concert uniform organization/inventory (in the choir room next door to band room)
Thank you for your willingness to lend a hand.
